We bought 6 new chicks back in April! I thought we needed at least one chicken with RED feathers in our flock! I wanted to order a couple of older chickens for several reasons, but it is so expensive to have them shipped! I didn't want baby chicks because you have to care for them differently, and they can easily slip through our fence. However, we just couldn't afford the older chickens!!! Eventually, we purchased chicks from the tractor supply store for a cheap price. These chickens were labeled red pullets, which basically means they will have reddish colored feathers. I don't think any of them are true Rhode Island Reds or New Hampshire Reds, but they are breed specially for laying eggs. We were required to purchase a minimum of 6 at a time, so we came home with more chicks than we wanted. So far, they are doing really well, and they have gotten so big. I will post photos of them later. They have been a little mischievous, and have gotten loose several times (maybe I will have a chance to post a story about that later), but they are really sweet. They don't mind getting close to us, and they will eat out of our hands. Anyway, here is a couple of photos of our chicks when they were little!
