A Booby Trap for a Jibboo

Dr. Suess asks, "What would you do if you met a Jibbo?" Well, Weston would build a booby trap and try to catch him. A Jibboo is a birdlike creature in one of Dr. Suess' books, "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think." For some reason the Jibboo REALLY freaks Weston out. He thinks there is one in his closet. Anyway, I found Weston with his mattress halfway on the floor this Saturday. I asked him why he pulled the mattress off of his bed and he responded, "I'm making a booby trap for the Jibboo." I grabbed my camera and then asked him to explain how it worked:) He explained his plan to me and I left his room the way it was. I wanted Nathan to see his trap after he came home from his run. I had no idea that Weston would continue to work on his trap while I was in the shower! Apparently, he went around the house collecting items for his Jibboo trap. He helped himself to a vacuum cleaner part, tape, postage stamps, and Wyatt's infant Tylenol. When Nathan came home, he found the rest of Weston's trap! Here is what our boy did:

This is where he was going to trap the Jibboo

The Jibboo lives in his closet

Here is the other part of his trap. I never could get him to explain what this was for. I can't think of a better way to waste postage stamps and ALL of our tape!

He shoved the Tylenol down the vacuum cleaner tube.

Working on Handwriting

Weston hasn't taken an interest in handwriting/coloring and I predict it will always fall on the bottom of his list of favorite things to do. He would rather spend his time playing games, building, shooting guns, getting messy, playing outside, putting puzzles together, or driving me crazy. Every month or so I make an attempt to get him interested in using a writing utensil and I usually lose his attention within minutes. Most of the time it ends with him stabbing numerous holes in the paper or dropping crayons all over the floor. Last week I made an attempt at getting him to write a "W" with a pencil while I was making dinner. He was cooperative for about 10 minutes and he actually wrote the letter "W". Go, Weston!!!!!! I think he could learn to write more if he had a bit of self motivation. I'm not going to push it; I know he will get PLENTY of practice when he starts school.

Hello, Sunshine!

Last week we had THREE full days of sunshine and warm weather. It was wonderful! We took full advantage of it and stayed outside most of the day. Here are some photos of the boys enjoying the weather. We are really looking forward to spring!

This is what cow's milk does to Wyatt...

I read that approximately 2% of infants are allergic to cow's milk. It looks like we are the lucky parents of a baby that falls in that 2%! We have been dealing with a mystery rash on Wyatt from the time he was born. The doctor suspected that he was allergic to cow's milk so she advised me to eliminate all dairy products from my diet while I was nursing Wyatt. That was difficult! Having to give up ALL cheeses, milk, cream, chocolate, sour cream, yogurt, butter, ice cream and ALL of the other foods that contain dairy products is NOT fun. I was not left with many food choices. I started drinking soy milk and I took most of the dairy products out of my diet. I also started giving Wyatt soy formula whenever I supplement with formula. His rash has never went away completely, so we were not positive it was the cow's milk causing his skin reaction. Saturday we finally solved the mystery. We went shopping so I made a bottle for Wyatt using Similac formula instead of his usual Nutramigen. I thought it was the soy based formula and I fed it to him while we were eating lunch. After lunch we went straight home. When we took Wyatt out of the car, we noticed he was covered in hives! Poor Wyatt was clawing at his head and body because he was itching so bad. I immediately read the label on the can of formula and noticed the first ingredient listed was nonfat milk! So, our baby is allergic to cow's milk :( Although I am happy we finally know what is causing his allergic reaction, I am disappointed that it has to be cow's milk. I will continue to nurse Wyatt, but I will have to make sure
I limit my dairy intake. I wouldn't mind switching him strictly to soy formula, but Wyatt doesn't care for the soy formula very much. Besides, I don't know if I could stand the smell of soy formula (or the cost) for 7 months! It smells horrible! I am hoping that he will grow out of this allergy by the age of one. I have read that some babies don't grow out of it until they are 3!! If this is the case, we are going to have a difficult time finding food for him to eat.

5 months

Wyatt turned 5 months old on Sunday! His first year is moving along very quickly and it is making me sad. He is such a sweetheart and I want him stay little (although he is not really little for his age) for a long time!
Not much has changed in the last month. He has one more tooth and I can feel two more teeth making their way through. He is making efforts to roll over, but he hasn't mastered it yet. He also likes to practice sitting by himself. Most nights he sleeps 8 to 10 hours, but he'll have a bad night at least once a week. On bad nights he he wakes up twice. I just never know what he is going to do!

Here are a few photos of our baby...

I have to remind myself to give Wyatt tummy time.... I forget to do a lot of things!

He loves his brother!

He was able to sit in high chair at Chik-fil-a the other day. He loved it!

Weston's first dentist appointment

Weston went to his first dentist appointment today! Weston was really brave and I was really proud of him. I have never seen anyone so excited to go to the dentist. He didn't get that from me; I was terrified of the dentist!

Instead of taking him to a pediatric dentist, I just brought him to my dentist. It is a lot closer to home and I feel comfortable with the lady that cleans my teeth. She has been cleaning my teeth since I was teenager and we have always liked her.

Waiting patiently in the waiting room. He couldn't wait for his name to be called!

He quickly hopped in the chair and began asking questions. Just as I predicted, he wanted to know how EVERYTHING worked and wanted try out all of the gadgets.

He was a little nervous when she tilted the chair back. He asked, "This is NOT going to be scary?" We told him everything was going to be fine and that made him feel better.

He wasn't happy about the light shining in his eyes either. She offered him sunglasses but he said he didn't need any glasses.

She polished his teeth with bubble gum toothpaste and then flossed them. She also gave him a strawberry foam fluoride treatment. He was cooperative and didn't complain about anything bothering him during the cleaning.
When she was done he asked, "Why did you put the chair up?" I guess he wasn't ready to leave yet. He'll go back in July for another cleaning and X-rays.

Playing together and sharing

Weston has started to include Wyatt during his play time. I often find toys on Wyatt's chest, stomach, or face that Weston has given him. He is making an effort to share with Wyatt even though it is difficult for him at times. I wonder how well they will share when Wyatt starts going after toys and taking things on his own. Until then, I am going to appreciate every minute that I don't have to break up fights over toys.

Steven and Erica gave Weston this musical train set for Christmas.

You can see that Weston put the train next to Wyatt

Please ignore Weston's hair. I finally had a chance to cut it this weekend.

New Year's

Steven, Erica, and Gage came to visit us on New Year's! We were happy to have someone here to celebrate the new year with us, even though I think we were all in bed before 10:30pm! The weather was just too nasty! Usually we build a fire and roast marshmallows when they come, but not this time. We made lasagna and ate indoors.

It stopped raining for a total of 30 minutes, so Gage and Weston had a chance to jump on the trampoline a bit.

We made banana pancakes for breakfast on New Year's Day

Wyatt rolled over for the first time on New Year's day and he hasn't done it again!

On New Year's Evening, we went over to Nana and Papa's house and ate black eyed peas, collard greens, and corn bread.

Weston wouldn't touch his greens, but he ate a big bowl of black eyed peas.

Wyatt's 4 month stats

I took Wyatt to his 4 month checkup today. The doctor and nurses were surprised by how much he has grown and that he has two teeth already.

Here are his stats:

Height: 27 inches 97%
He has grown 3 inches since his last doctor appointment!!!!

Weight: 16 lbs 7 oz 80%
Head: 16 3/4 60%

Abiding by the Rules!

Weston tries hard to follow rules, but he loves to walk a fine line. Here are just a few examples:

Rule: We keep our food and drinks in the kitchen. Notice his cereal is right on the border.

Rule: No sitting in Wyatt's exersaucer. This is Weston playing UNDER the exersaucer.

First Foods!

Wyatt was introduced to his first foods this week! It all started while we were eating pork chops and sweet potatoes for dinner on Tuesday. I was holding Wyatt during dinner and he was trying desperately to grab my plate. I told Nathan that I thought he really wanted to eat some of my food. I really wanted to give him some of my sweet potato, but I knew that you are supposed to start babies with the green vegetables first. I guess you throw out all of the rules with the second child. We let him try the sweet potatoes and he loved it! He kept most of his food in his mouth and did well swallowing it.

On New Year's Day, we tried rice cereal with a spoon.

I don't think he likes the rice cereal very much...look at that face! He did really well with the spoon though!

Instead of black eyed peas for New Years, Wyatt ate green peas. He made a yucky face at first, but ate almost the entire container.

This is a video of Wyatt eating green peas on New Years. The video is a little shaky because I was feeding and filming at the same time.
